Should we offer milk on shiva linga?

Many Bollywood movies and some activists have been opposing the offering of milk on shivalingas and idols of other gods. What they demand is that this milk should be given to poor and needy people rather than offering it on idols. What they think is that offerings on idols goes into drainage and thereby the milk is wasted. Many Bollywood movies have shown that a person stands in a long queue and offers milk on the shivalinga. This milk then drained through the drainage. But the reality is something different.

Actually when the milk is offered on the shivalinga, it is collected in a vessel. The collected offering is then served to the devotees as prashadam. The temple committee has to ensure that the prashadam is not wasted or thrown into bins. This prashadam is considered a purified food by the hindu devotees.

The prashadam is equally distributed to all the devotees in the temple. And if its extra then it is distributed among poor or needy people in the nearby areas. So,there is no discrimination of poor and rich. One can also see that the food is not wasted in anyway by offering it on shivalinga. There are some temples run by people with lack of knowledge regarding religion in some parts of our nation. Here some people practice the drain away milk in drainage after its offered to shivalinga. But this is not a practice in hindu culture.

In my opinion,
The people who oppose this tradition, which includes some pseudo secular people, anti nationals, some  rediculizing political parties, some bollywood personalities and other people with selfish motives do not have complete knowledge regarding this or intentionally defame the hindu beliefs. These people have some selfish motive may be political or religious. This are the publicity stunts done by them on media to seek fame. From many years there has been trials to defame hindu religion. It is one of the tools created to support it. I think one should never fall in the trap of this selfish people. You must follow the tradition of offering to the god.
